Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Friend of the Museum Barb Weitbrecht, AKA Sealwyf, the editor of the very useful Spotter's Guide to the Circle Cats.

We've had what a local weather person described as a "major weather matrix" which brought snow, sleet, and now ice. The picture above shows the Old Bridge in Wallingford Park (also seen just below under less matrixy conditions), almost hidden by Major Weather Matrix material.

A bit of snow, and a bit of sleet. Even the deer were absent; probably watching the game somewhere. We've been pretty busy with the big annual Janus Studies symposium. We may upload some of the papers to the website soon; but frankly, they were so boring that I hardly have the heart to inflict them on an unprepared public - how much do people want to read about the unintended ur-feminist symbolism of cows in Janus photographs, after all?
In other news, I've finally gotten around to plugging a turntable into the computer for to start digitizing some of my ancient LPs.

Happy New Year, and happy anniversary to these pages. The first entry featured a photograph by Allan Janus, so I thought it wouldn't be wildly inappropriate to post another:

Antietam Battlefield, bromoil print, c.1922. Following my visit to Sharpsburg a few days ago, I did a bit of digging in the museum archives to see if AJ had also visited the battlefield, and so he had. And see an earlier entry on Antietam.
